Use & basics
WHAT IS SHAVING SOAP?
Shaving soap is made for shaving and builds a dense, creamy lather that protects the skin and helps the razor glide.
Unlike canned shaving foam, shaving soap contains no propellants and is economical to use. A small jar lasts a long time.
The lather is built with water and a brush, which gives better control and less irritation.
Shaving soap is used slowly and mindfully. It’s a simple craft — not a shortcut. With the right lather, friction is reduced and the shave becomes smoother.

HOW TO USE SHAVING SOAP
You will need
• Shaving soap
• Shaving brush
• Warm water
• A bowl or cup (optional, but practical)
Quick guide
Shaving soap is used by building lather with a brush and water and working it into damp skin. The lather softens the beard, protects the skin, and allows the razor to glide smoothly.
The goal is a dense, creamy lather that provides both glide and protection — helping to reduce irritation.
For best results, follow the steps on the next page.
BUILD LATHER
Build lather from shaving soap using a shaving brush.
Wet the shaving brush
Wet the brush in warm water and shake out excess. It should be damp, not dripping.
Load the brush with soap
Work the brush on the soap for 10–20 seconds, until it is loaded.
Build the lather
Work the brush in a cup using circular motions until lather forms.
Adjust the consistency
Add a few drops of water if needed. Lather should be creamy and elastic.
Take your time. Lather is the foundation of the shave.
USE THE LATHER
Prepare the skin
Wet your face with warm water. Apply the lather using calm, circular motions to prepare the skin.
During the shave
Shave with a light hand, follow the direction of hair growth, and add more lather as needed.
After the shave
Rinse with cool water and let the skin rest. A good shave feels clean — not irritated.
FAQ
How do I know the lather is right?
A good lather is creamy and elastic. If it feels dry — add a few drops of water. If it feels airy — load more soap.
Is shaving soap suitable for sensitive skin?
Often yes. A dense, well-hydrated lather reduces friction and can feel gentler than canned foam.
Can shaving soap be used with multi-blade razors?
Yes. With enough water in the lather, shaving soap works well with multi-blade razors. If it feels sticky: thin the lather slightly and rinse the blade more often.
